A Miracle in Jávea: Sammy’s Long Way Home

Last week, Team Catland visited an urbanisation where neighbours had been complaining about a stray cat. But this wasn’t just any stray. Despite the tension, a kind-hearted family had been quietly feeding him, though they were being threatened for helping.

Something felt familiar. That face, those markings—we couldn’t shake the feeling we knew him. He was too nervous to scan for a microchip, but deep down, we were 100% sure this cat once belonged to Melanie Thompson.

Mel sadly passed away in February last year. During the upheaval after her passing, one of her beloved cats had slipped out when a family member entered her home. Mel loved her cats. They were her everything.

We knew we had to find a safe, loving place for this last precious soul. It felt like Mel was nudging us from beyond, guiding us to do right by her boy. Then! like magic, Catland received a call from a wonderful family hoping to adopt an older cat. We sent them a few profiles… and they chose him!

Today, we took our mystery boy (then still unnamed) to Clínica Veterinaria ASIS for a health check, vaccinations, and parasite treatment. Boom. The chip scan confirmed it: he was Melany’s cat. There was no way we could let him go back to the streets. We called the adopting family with the news—and without hesitation, they welcomed him into their home. Mel’s beloved cat now has a name: Sammy (formerly known as Squiggly). He’s finally safe and loved again. He settled immediately, he knew he had found a loving family again.

We know Mel is smiling down on him. Rest in peace, Mel. Your boy is home.

We are building a shelter, but will continue to keep rescuing cats. If you would like to support our rescues, please donate. Thank you!
