Catland Jávea was born out of necessity. There simply wasn’t a cat shelter in Jávea and the street cats were left to the hands of fate. The only help available was a handful of people feeding the cats and the local Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program carried out by Javea Feral Cats.
One day, our founder Claire Wall returned a spayed cat to the street. A local resident objected to the cat being placed back in ‘his’ neighbourhood. Unfortunately, many people regard stray cats as a nuisance. Claire explained that there wasn’t any other option for the cat: there wasn’t anywhere else to take it. Saying these words out loud, she realised something had to happen. A shelter was needed!
Soon after, Claire presented her plan for a dedicated cat shelter to city council of Jávea. Teh council recognised the benefits such a facility could bring to both animal welfare and the local community and pledged its support by providing a plot of land for the project.
The years that followed were not always easy. Like many projects, Catland faced delays, setbacks, and unexpected challenges. Progress was often slower than we had hoped, but giving up was never an option. Today, Catland Jávea is finally taking shape. We are building the shelter!

Catland Jávea is an official non-profit association and will be operating under a full zoological licence and working in partnership with a registered veterinarian.
We proudly support the local Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) programme carried out by Jávea Feral Cats. Cats that are socialised and suitable for adoption are welcomed into Catland, where they receive care, attention, and medical support until they find their forever homes.
Even before opening our shelter, our dedicated team of volunteers has already rescued, fostered, and rehomed dozens of cats into loving local homes.
We are also proud to work with the Little Tigers Foundation in the Netherlands, helping us find wonderful adoptive families for cats that may otherwise struggle to find homes locally. As Catland grows, we hope to build partnerships with other trusted organisations both in Spain and abroad.
Education is a key part of our mission. We believe that raising awareness about animal welfare, responsible cat care, and the importance of sterilisation is essential to improving the lives of stray cats for generations to come.

Catland Jávea is being built in the Ramblars area, a peaceful and natural setting that is perfectly suited to the wellbeing of our cats.
Located less than 10 minutes from the centre of Jávea, just off the Carretera Gata (CV-734) towards Gata de Gorgos,. Catland is easy to reach by car, bicycle, or on foot.
The surrounding countryside is popular with walkers, dog owners, and cyclists who enjoy the area’s quiet rural roads and beautiful scenery. We hope Catland will become a welcoming place to stop by, meet the cats, learn more about our work, and support animal welfare in Jávea.
As the shelter grows, we also hope to create a place where visitors can relax, connect with like-minded animal lovers, and experience first-hand the positive impact that rescue and adoption can have on the lives of cats in need.
