Roundabout mayhem!
This morning, Team Catland received a SOS call from the Townhall of Jávea. Council gardeners had been trimming hedges on the buzzing Arenal roundabout when! what’s this? Two tiny fluffballs were spotted, trembling and tangled in fear. Hedge-clippers down, operation rescue began!
Our usual kitty catching gear was already out on another furry fiasco, so the Catland signal was sent out to the ever-reliable Sarah Mowers Paye Sanju Sanctuary – kitten rescue in Javea, who swooped in with the necessary kit, like a feline superhero. Hazel Darcy stood by, heart and arms wide open, ready to receive the tiny fugitives.
First on the scene was Rosana Giner, who checked out the bushy battlefield. We swiftly scooped up a wide-eyed little Siamese and nestled her into a basket.
But wait! Mum was still around! She’d come back to feed her little ones, we set a trap with high hopes and tasty bait, careful not to remove the final kitten until mum was safely secured.
Hours ticked by… and then success! Mum stepped into the trap, and off she went to José Luis Centro Veterinario Albeitar to be sterilised.
Back at the roundabout, the final kitten, hungry and scared, tiptoed out. Angela Poveda was now our assistant rescuer as we made the delicate final swoop with the net MISSION accomplished! Now, both babies are safe, warm, and purring in Hazel’s loving arms.
Tomorrow, mum will be released back to her colony where she will have a healthier life. ( How she wasn’t killed navigating the roundabout crossing, we’ll never know).
Incredible teamwork, everyone! What a whirlwind rescue! Hedge heroes, kitten wranglers, and big-hearted humans all around. Thank you also to Vera Gafarova for allowing us the use of her office keeping the felines cool and out of the blazing sun.
We love team work!
