Well… last night’s was definitely one for the books. The Balcón al Mar Voluntarios Firefighters were called out in the morning for a tiny kitten stuck up a tree. Fairly straightforward, you would think.
The kitten came down safely… and then promptly ran away and fell through a window into a garage about 1.5 metres below.
Of course, the owners were away, the windows were barred and there was absolutely no way to get inside.
So we waited. We thought. We scratched our heads.
And then Sienna Evans had an idea.
A Lidl bag.
We lowered a small shopping bag on a string into the garage, complete with a generous helping of tuna. Then came around 30 minutes of negotiations, crying, tuna sniffing and a lot of patience while we tried to convince the kitten that climbing into a shopping bag was, in fact, an excellent idea.
Eventually, we decided it was time.
ONE… TWO… THREE… PULL!
We hauled the bag up and, and almost immediately, a tiny kitten’s head was poking out of the top! There was absolutely no way we were letting him escape again. We grabbed him, held on tight while he enthusiastically objected to the entire operation, and finally got him safely into the restrainer.
Success! But, what an absolutely crazy rescue!
All because of a little shopping bag, a lot of tuna and some brilliant teamwork.
Well done, Sienna. Sometimes the simplest ideas really do save the day.
