My name is Claire Wall, I am Catland’s founder and president. At 17 years of age, I joined the British Army where I learned at a young age the importance of teamwork and discipline.

Life was wonderful serving my country but after meeting my husband I decided it was time to support him. I hung up my uniform and together we traveled the world. We served in many amazing and interesting countries enabling us to learn about different cultures.

When David retired from the army we moved to Jávea Spain where we purchased a cafe called Mr. Punch. The cafe quickly became a success amongst locals and tourists. We hosted many charitable events for the local charities, raising funds and awareness for their good causes.

Soon after I moved to Jávea it became apparent that there was an overpopulation of uncontrolled sick street cats.  They had a tough cruel life trying to survive. My heart sinks watching an animal suffer. They say that you are born like us.

I joined the local association Javea Feral Cats and helped trap and neuter cats. But, there was nowhere for the cats to go other than to release them back into their colonies on the streets. Friendly cats that could easily become wonderful pets still had to live and die on the streets.

The only way to have a better chance at controlling the colonies was to set up an association that would build a shelter. A refuge to safely house the cats until we find them loving homes. The town needed its very own cat rescue center. I felt drawn to become involved and set up Catland Javea. After 3 years of red tape, a pandemic, and many other obstacles that were put in our way, Catland Javea is now a reality.

I am so excited that soon the shelter doors will open. It has been a constant struggle but we never gave up on our street cats.

Jávea needs this…
